Whether we agree or not, a large majority of the world's population eat meat. This results in the production every day of considerable quantities of raw hides which, if they were not recycled, would become a waste which would have to be transported and then destroyed. Usually this role of recycling raw hides is performed by various industries including tanning which plays a major role in this process with other industries such as cosmetics, pharmacy, etc. The current dramatic situation with the closing or slowing down of world tanneries highlights this recycling role in a glaring way. This mission is insufficiently emphasized by circular economy experts, even though tanning is probably the oldest recycling activity invented by man!
